Jimmy Wales – Urara Motomura

I watched two clips of Jimmy Wales interview. In those clips, he said they wouldn’t shut down Wikipedia if troubles happen. This fact was surprising for me. But I felt that his determination to carry out his original intention is very firm.

When he was asked a question about a problem that some students copy (cut) Wikipedia and paste into their academic papers today, his answer was that he did not think it’s a problem because teacher also have Wikipedia and be able to check a cheating. I thought his idea was partly right. However, I think the essential problem is not the way to check a cheating but how to have students not to use Wikipedia for academic purpose. My position on reliability of Wikipedia has not changed. I think we should not use Wikipedia for academic purpose.
