What I thought interesting about Jimmy Wales' interview was that the academic reputation of wikipedia has improved. The stereotype of wikipedia was that sometimes unreliable and contained fake or mistakes, but the accuracy has been getting better.
When I research on an academic topic, I sometimes use wikipedia to gather information. I think that is an efficient way in a research. Still, yet, I think it is so dangerous that you cannot copy-paste the contents of wikipedia. Just for understanding the large frame of a topic, wikipedia is suitable but I think we should rely on other information source when we need academic information.
I agree with your last sentence. We should choose source depending on the time or what is the information used for.
