For him, learning languages is not his hobby but a way of life. In each study, he experiments on lots of ways to learn and evaluates them. To consider about the way of studying is really important in order to study effectively.
I've found three ways of his leaning method. First thing is about audio input. He listens to lots of music and watches TV shows and movies in language that he wants to learn. This helps to improve listening skills and pronunciation.
Second thing is the importance of getting feedback. He posts his videos in which he speaks languages that he wants to get feedback about. And he talks with the native speakers once a week to get feedback of his skills.
The last thing is about the ways of memorizing vocabulary. He tries to find some similarities between words in terms of phonetic similarities, meaning, and so on. It helps you to learn as much words as possible.
in the movie I watched, he said he had memorized lyrics in the language he had been learning. it might help widen your vocabulary as well.
ReplyDeleteYeah, absolutely. You may be able to memorize it easily coz you like it.
DeleteI was impressed with the post you wrote about three ways of him. Maybe, I watched same video, but I wasn’t able to organize contents of the video like you!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that. Thanks for saying such a thing.
DeleteBefore commenting, let me thank you for your giving a message to my blog.(“Tim Doner” blog) I am very glad to receive your comment so soon!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I am interested in his method of watching TV and getting feedback. I would like to try his way when learning a foreign language.
Your welcome haha.
DeleteYeah, let's enjoy doing this.
The three ways of Tim’s learning method you found were interesting. Especially, the second one is interesting for me. I also watched a video he was speaking language he wanted to master in a You Tube video and got some feedback from native speakers. It is difficult to speak confidently without fear for making mistakes. However, he can do it and it’s just the way of his learning.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it is difficult absolutely. I think that what motivate me the most is realizing my lack of ability. I can easily notice that sort of things when I talk to native speakers.
DeleteLet's do this
I was surprised to know that he posted his videos he spoke the language in. I know the importance of getting feedback. But his passion seems to be much stronger than me!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it is surprising. I don't think I can do like him.
DeleteI agree with you. There are no other thing which is more important than passion.
I feel your writing organises well his way to learn a new language and it's easy to understand his way by reading it. For me, the first way seems very effective, because it can be applied to actual conversation.
ReplyDeleteYeah, let's have lots of conversations as much as we can.
ReplyDeleteHi Yuto, the 'getting feedback' idea is interesting. I guess one way of structuring opportunities for that is to have language exchanges with folks who speak various languages. You can give them feedback and they you.
ReplyDeleteDavid :-)
