The best way to learn an additional language-Kazuma Hiroi

Before I came to New Zealand, I thought the best way to learn languages is to listen and speak aloud such as watching TV programs and shadowing. For example, I read text aloud and listened to CDs of a textbook when I studied Chinese for exam.

But I have changed my mind and thought studying abroad is the best way to learn languages since I came to NZ. English has been one of the subjects I have to study for exams since I began to study it. But studying abroad brought home to me the fact that English is not a subject but a language.

It is sometimes tough to put myself in environment where I have to speak and listen to the language all day. However, I think it will surely help me learning it. I will spend much more time in using English and be accustomed to it. I won't miss this opportunity and will make efforts to master English.

  1. I also think studying abroad is important. Just knowing is not useful. We must master how we use our knowledge, so it is crucial to make use of our English to improve it.

    1. I think making use of English is important, too. So we should not be afraid of making mistakes and should speak more.

  3. I am very impressed with “English is not a subject but a language”. In my country, many people tend to regard English as only a subject in school. But it’s a language. I want to use English as a language not for getting university credit.

    1. I'm happy with your approval. I don't want students in Japan to regard English as one of the subjects.

  5. Studying abroad is a good way to improve your language because you can force you to use foreign language. But learning abroad costs a lot and has possibility of becoming too nervous about adjusting new environment and worse, becoming mental sick.

    1. I think what you said is true. There are also disadvantages in learning abroad. But it can't be helped. We can't get advantages without taking risks.
